Heart Body Mind Psychological and Assessment Services

My name is Jace Laing-Schroeder (They/Them). I am a settler currently living on unceded Treaty 7 territory, in Mohkinstsis. I have a background in fine arts, group facilitation, program development, peer support, and child and youth care. I have a BFA from the Alberta University of the Arts and am currently working towards my Masters in Counselling Psychology. I am a proud transmasc, nonbinary, and neurodivergent person operating based on both lived and learned experience. I am also an artist, song singer, performer, caregiver, and a proud pet parent! I am deeply committed to building an anti-oppressive, decolonial counselling practice, based on curiosity, intentionality, and humility. I believe that talk therapy is one element in what should be a holistic approach to mental health, recovery, and well-being. Integrating community care alongside self-care practices, and emphasizing the importance and value of peer-informed practice is very important to me. Within my practice, I am especially interested in Somatic Experiencing (and other body-based approaches), Expressive Arts Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and EMDR. My focuses currently include grief, relationships, disordered eating/eating disorders, anxiety and depression, complex trauma, gender, and sexuality. I'm looking forward to developing a community-oriented practice that is both holistic and accessible.

Personal Interests:

In my spare time, I enjoy creating playful, whimsical paintings, unique home accessories, and clay jewelry. I live with my 17-year-old Siamese cat (Kiki), and my 14-year-old shepherd (Bella). I drink Earl Grey every morning, and have recently taken to interior design and decorating! I also enjoy playing my ukulele (especially around a campfire) and singing songs, loudly. My dog and I spend a lot of time exploring local neighbourhoods, and hiking the woods behind my apartment!
