Jennifer Giffin (They/She), Graduate Intern Therapist
Heart Body Mind Psychological and Assessment Services
Jennifer Giffin (they/she) is a Masters in Counselling Psychology Therapist Intern, Grief and Loss Coach in training and mental health advocate with a passion for helping people navigate grief and loss. I believe in practicing from a collaborative and affirming lens, knowing that each person is the expert in their experience and that together we can find a way to make it through. Drawing from narrative, person-centered, humanistic, existential, emotion-focused and feminist theory allows us to explore the many facets that make us who we are. I am a settler in Kjipuktuk, the unceded and unsurrendered land of the Mi'kmaq people, and am actively seeking to decolonize myself and learn to practice anti-oppression, intersectional therapy.
Having personal experience with neonatal loss, part of Jennifer's mission is to create personal and community support and give voice to those who are living with the pain of losing a pregnancy, baby or child, and to those struggling with infertility. They recently founded Oliver's Offerings, a barrier and cost-free retreat for bereaved birthing parents, which will be held in Nova Scotia this Spring. Jennifer was a Registered Nurse and worked in Oncology and Palliative Care for over 10 years. Counselling around cancer or health-related grief, new or chronic pain, anxiety and depression, complex, medical and birth trauma, gender, relationships and sexuality are all interesting and exciting to me.
